Founded in 1907 as a forward-thinking day nursery for the children of local laborers, NCSC has become an integral part of the community and a safety net for thousands of families each year. In our first century of developing and promoting innovative community support services, NCSC has taken an active role in such institutions as full-day child care; a baby clinic; a youth center, domestic skills and recreation programs; two women’s clubs; the All Newton Music School; the Newton Job Bank; the Newton Senior Citizens Committee; an adult day care center; and a senior volunteer program, RSVP, now known as SOAR 55.
As we prepare for our next 100 years, we find our social services are more critical than ever. More people, from diverse economic and social backgrounds, seek care or support for a loved one through early childhood education and out of school time programs, teen mentoring and drop-in centers, and family support and guidance. While demand for support services is rising, state and federal funds are shrinking. With a commitment to a model of caring and comprehensive community service, NCSC’s board and staff are dedicated to providing programs and services to fill community needs of today and tomorrow.
