Providing high-quality, early childhood education and child care requires skill, commitment to excellence and experience. Newton Community Service Center (NCSC) began as the West Newton Day Nursery in 1907. While our programs and services have evolved to meet today’s needs, our original commitment to building community and supporting families has not changed.

NCSC offers safe, nurturing child care to help children grow and learn.

Newton Community Service Center (NCSC ) seeks to provide a warm and nurturing environment where children thrive and are happy. It is our desire to promote the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of each child in accordance with his/her individual needs and abilities. At all times, differences in rates of maturity, interest and personality are respected.

The program is structured to enable each child to maximize his/her potential through non-competitive, child-centered, open-ended experiences. Young children are at their most receptive point in learning when they are directly involved in exploring their environment through play. The classrooms are divided into learning areas that guide the children into self initiated discoveries. As a result, teachers do not function as the sole dispensers of knowledge but rather as guides. Information is available through a variety of ever changing and challenging materials. Multi-cultural materials and activities are important curriculum components.

Children learn to become participating members of a group and to develop a sense of community. Throughout the day, children are involved in individual and group play, active and quiet play, indoor and outdoor play, dramatic play, art, games, books and literacy activities, block building, cooking, laughing, exploring, discovering, and experimenting. Field trips are planned to expand the preschool curriculum.

We work closely with parents to understand each child’s needs, interests and abilities. Our teachers and independent licensed providers are caring professionals; many of whom have worked in our child care program for 10 years or more.

NCSC offers Choice

When looking for care for your child, you’ve probably considered the intimate setting of a home with a licensed provider or the vibrance of a certified center. NCSC’s Early Education and Child Care Program offers both.

Located in West Newton Square, NCSC’s Early Education and Child Care Center provides a safe, nurturing place for children from 3 months to 5 years to grow and learn. We work closely with parents to understand each child’s individual needs, interests and abilities. Our teachers are caring professionals, many of whom have worked in our Child Care program for 10 years or more. Our days are filled with fun, learning and exploration; and our focus is helping children develop important problem-solving and social skills for a lifetime of positive learning.

NCSC's center-based program is licensed through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for quality.

The NCSC home-based Family Child Care System administers full and part-time care in the Newton and Waltham homes of providers that are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. This unique program combines the intimacy of family child care with the security of oversight and access to family services of Newton Community Service Center.
