SOAR,
Service Opportunities After 55,
is an
RSVP
program of the Corporation for National & Community
Service, a network of federally sponsored programs
helping Americans over the age of 55 find
opportunities to address community needs through
volunteer service.
SOAR
provides older adults with the opportunity to explore
how their skills and interests can help local
non-profit and civic organizations. SOAR volunteers
help meet needs in Newton,
Framingham, Wayland, Wellesley, Weston,
Natick
and Ashland.
SOAR
Volunteers serve in a variety of ways including:

Learning Partners
in elementary schools where volunteers help children
improve their reading and math skills.
~
Mentors or Tutors
to MCI Framingham inmates who are enrolled in
Boston
University’s
College Behind Bars program.
~
Nonprofit Management Consultants who are
trained to help nonprofits with management, marketing,
organizational, financial and program challenges.
~
Consumer educators
who teach the wise use of credit and credit cards to
high school seniors.
~
Tutors
of English as a
Second Language and to young adults who are preparing
for their high school equivalency exam and,
~ CERTS, Citizens
Emergency Response Teams
Train to assist your town/city in emergency response
(Wellesley and Wayland).
Other opportunities include
Lifetime Learning
course instructors, Head Start Classroom assistants,
mentors to teens and young parents who need support,
mentors to families/survivors of domestic violence,
outreach to the public about local environmental
issues and the list goes on. We also can help you
create your own volunteer opportunity. For a complete
